College is the goal, but will you be ready when you get there?
Research conducted by David T. Conley, expert on college readiness, states that, "being college-ready means students understand what is expected in a college course, can cope with the content knowledge presented, can take away from the course the key intellectual lessons, and have both the mindset and disposition necessary to enable understanding".
AVID is an academic elective that provides students with additional resources and support for college readiness. Students in the AVID program are determined to attend and graduate from college and are willing to work hard to achieve that goal.
What is the AVID elective curriculum?
AVID is more than an organized binder! Everything we do falls into one or more of the following categories: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. You will learn and sharpen academic skills, improve communication, and prepare your mindset for college readiness.
Why do I need to take the AVID elective class?
The elective class provides an extra level of support in the following ways:
- Teachers are trained to use AVID methodologies
- AVID students have the same goal of college readiness and success
- Tutorial/Study Groups twice a week
- Honors points during junior and senior year
